Houk Award

NOMINATIONS ARE NOW OPEN!

Each year, the DAI selects an outstanding and inspirational educator to receive the Pamela P. Houk Award for Excellence in Art Education. Selections are made through a panel review process of peer and student nominations. The winner is presented with the Houk Award at the DAI’s YeckCollege Artist Fellowship and Yeck High School Opening Reception and receives permanent recognition in the Lange Famiyl Experiencenter. This year’s reception is on Thursday, May 1, from 5-7 p.m. Nominations are open and will be accepted from February 3rd, 2025 through March 14, 2025.
 

ELIGIBILITY
Any PreK-12 teacher or community educator in the Miami Valley who has demonstrated a proven commitment and dedication to arts education through the development of initiatives, programs, or curricula that promote creative learning and have enhanced the lives of their students or learners.

NOMINATION PROCESS AND PROCEDURE

1.   Educators are nominated by any student or peer of the educator using the form above. Nominations are due by March 14, 2025.

2.   Nominees are contacted on or by March 17, 2025, and provided further application materials and next steps. 

3.   Nominees submit any necessary application materials via email by April 4, 2025.

4.   A panel of judges will review all submissions and decide between April 7-April 11, 2025

5.   The award recipient will be notified in the days thereafter.

We encourage you and your colleagues and students to nominate an educator in the greater Miami Valley area who excels in the field of art education.

Gail’s efforts in her community are outstanding, as evidenced by the numerous nominations from fellow faculty, former and current students, supervisors and parents. With nearly 30 years of teaching experience, a common theme in the nominations submitted for Gail was her willingness to go above and beyond to provide meaningful art experiences for her students.
