Outside the Box: Plein Air Painting in the Dayton Countryside
Instructor: Greg Dearth
For ages 16+
Back by popular demand, but with new locations to discover! Ever wanted to learn how to paint landscapes on location in the tradition of the plein air school? This class is for you! Learn tips and tricks for oil painting outdoors including best color, composition and brushwork techniques. Each week class will meet at a different beautiful vista around the Dayton countryside to experience a rich palette of spring colors. In the event of bad weather, class will be held in the museum studios and instruction on painting from photographs will be provided.
$70 members, $80 non-members.
Participant supplies own materials and outdoor easel.
Recommended materials:
Oil Paint:
Burnt Sienna
Raw Sienna
Alizarin Crimson
Cadmium Red Light or Permanent Red Light
Cadmium Lemon
Cerulean Blue
Ultramarine Blue
Titanium White
Brushes and other items
2 each of the following brushes:
Natural Bristle Flat #2
Natural Bristle Flat #4
1 each of the following brushes:
Natural Bristle Flat #6
Natural Bristle Flat #8
Medium soft synthetic or sable brush (red or black sable or taclon work well)
Large soft synthetic or sable brush
Mineral spirits
Stand oil or Liquin
3 rubberbands
easel (outdoor model)
Roll of soft paper towels or shop towels
Canvas:
At least 6 Canvases (either stretched or boards, any size)
Other items to prepare for painting on location
hat with a bill or brim (a definite must-have!)
large bottle of water for clean-up and drinking
bar of soap or brush cleaner
snack
umbrella
chair
bug spray
sunblock

Fiction, Fine Art and Fun

Fiction, Fine Art and Fun is the Miami Valley’s only book club dedicated to art-related fiction.
