Frequently Asked Questions

What is the DAI doing to ensure the safety of staff and guests?

Staff are required to wear face coverings (mask) at all times inside the building. On-site staff will practice physical distancing according to CDC guidelines. Restrooms, elevators, doors, knobs, rails, handles and other high-touch surfaces are being disinfected multiple times daily. The museum is open under the restrictions for physical distancing, and all guests are encouraged to wear face coverings (mask) while in the museum.

The DAI monitors visitor flow and capacity to help maintain physical distancing. Should it be required, visitors will be asked to wait in a socially distanced line outside the museum’s main entrance and granted admission to enter as quickly as possible while observing proper physical distancing protocols.

The museum has made maps and guides available online, accessible to visitors’ personal devices.

What cleaning procedures have you implemented due to COVID-19?

The DAI has implemented a series of new sanitation and cleaning procedures, which will be enacted consistently throughout all hours of operation. New cleaning procedures include increased frequency of cleaning and sanitizing high-touch areas and implementing new products with enhanced disinfectant mechanisms.

Will the museum be serving food?

No. Food will not be served at the museum. Complimentary bottled water is available at Guest Services but must be consumed in the Entrance Rotunda or outside the museum. No food or drink is permitted in the galleries.

Is the Museum Store open?

Yes. The Museum Store is open during posted museum hours. Guests may also shop the Museum Store online.

Do I need to wear a face covering (mask) when I visit?

Face coverings (mask) are strongly encouraged, but not required, at this time. The DAI is a private institution devoted to public service. We will follow the guidance of CDC, state, county and city recommendations. Based on guidelines from the CDC, face coverings (masks) have been shown to effectively prevent the spread of COVID-19. The museum staff is excited to welcome you back. We hope you will visit the museum and enjoy all of the art the DAI has to offer..

What are the museum hours?

The DAI is currently open normal hours: Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from Noon to 5 p.m. We will occasionally evaluate hours based on attendance and current conditions locally. Any updates will be posted on the Visit page of our website.

Can I bring a bag?

Please leave large bags at home or in your vehicle. Visitors may carry bags smaller than 11 x 15 x 4 inches. Backpacks are not allowed in the galleries. Backpack-style purses that meet the size requirements may not be worn on the back (due to the risk of them striking artworks) and may only be taken into the galleries if carried or worn on the front. All purses and bags are subject to security check, regardless of size. The museum reserves the right to decide what should be placed in the coatroom lockers or to refuse items into the museum.
